The love of the Irish Harp was the inspiration of the late Tom Maher when he founded the Mullingar Harp School in the early 80’s. Tom had a love of the harp, its history and indeed was the harp maker of the school’s first training harps. His book “The Harp’s a Wonder” is a testament to his dedication to the instrument and his wish to promote the knowledge and preserve the harping tradition. In founding the Mullingar Harp School he wanted to promote the love of playing and ensure a new generation of harp teachers for future young students.
The Mullingar Harp School is today still going strong with enthusiastic young students and a field of young harp teachers to its credit. Classes are held by the kind assistance of the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar on Saturdays during school terms with students from beginners to advanced players. The option to take examinations is available and facilitated.
All enquiries are welcome with harps available to hire for new students.
